Here is a fact that reshapes how you should prepare for the DELE B2 writing exam.
Task 1 is not written from a text you can re-read. It is written from notes you take while listening to a 200- to 250-word recording. That note-taking skill is trained in B2 Spanish listening papers.
So the writing paper includes a listening test. If your note-taking is weak, you will sit down to write a 180-word letter about content you only half caught, and there is nothing on the page to check against. The specifications below are from the official B2 scoring scales in the Instituto Cervantes exam guide.
What does B2 expresión e interacción escritas ask?
The DELE B2 written expression test lasts 80 minutes and has two tasks. Task 1 is a formal or informal letter or email of 150 to 180 words, written from notes on a recorded informative text. Task 2 is a formal opinion article of 150 to 180 words, chosen from two options. Total output is 300-360 words.

Writing sits in Group 1 with reading at B2, and the pair needs at least 30 points out of 50. Listening and speaking form Group 2. The grouping is the same as at B1, despite what several preparation sites publish.

How is the DELE B2 expresión escrita scored?
Each task receives both a holistic score and an analytic score. The holistic score, a single overall judgment, is worth 40% of your writing score. The analytic score, composed of four categories, accounts for the remaining 60%, and both tasks are weighted equally within it.
Both scales span four bands, 0 to 3, with each band matched to a descriptor.
That 60/40 split matters strategically. Under a purely holistic system, a fluent-sounding text can carry weak organization. Here, most of the mark comes from four criteria assessed independently, so a text that sounds good but ignores the input, or covers the content but reads as a list, loses in the larger half of the scoring.
Band zero applies to either task written in under 100 words. At 150 to 180 words expected, that threshold is generous, but candidates who mismanage the 80 minutes and rush task 2 do hit it.

Va a escuchar una noticia de la radio local. Tome notas. Después escribirá un correo electrónico.
Buenas tardes. El Ayuntamiento de Valencia ha anunciado esta mañana el cierre al tráfico del centro histórico a partir del uno de septiembre. La medida afectará a un área de casi dos kilómetros cuadrados. Solo podrán circular por ella los residentes, los autobuses urbanos, los taxis y los vehículos de reparto en horario de mañana.
Según la concejala de movilidad, el objetivo es reducir la contaminación en un treinta por ciento y recuperar espacio para los peatones. El Ayuntamiento construirá tres aparcamientos disuasorios en la periferia, con un precio de dos euros al día, y ampliará la frecuencia de cuatro líneas de autobús.
La asociación de comerciantes del centro se ha mostrado en contra. Su portavoz ha declarado que la medida hará caer las ventas entre un veinte y un treinta por ciento, y ha pedido al Ayuntamiento que retrase la entrada en vigor hasta enero para no coincidir con la campaña de Navidad.
Los vecinos, en cambio, apoyan mayoritariamente el proyecto, aunque piden más plazas de aparcamiento para residentes. El plan definitivo se presentará en el pleno del próximo día quince.

Me parece una decisión acertada y, francamente, tardía. Quienes vivimos aquí llevamos años soportando un tráfico que no tiene ningún motivo para atravesar el casco antiguo.
Entiendo la preocupación de los comerciantes, pero no comparto su previsión. La experiencia de otras ciudades europeas apunta más bien a lo contrario: al ganar espacio peatonal, aumenta el número de visitantes que pasean y se detienen. Retrasar la medida hasta enero solo pospondría el problema.
Propondría una única mejora: que los aparcamientos disuasorios incluyan el billete de autobús en los dos euros diarios. Sin esa integración, mucha gente seguirá entrando en coche.

The note-taking method this task needs
You get two plays and no written text. Build your notes in five buckets that match the task instructions.

Draw the five boxes on your rough paper before the audio starts. Fill them in on the first play; complete the figures on the second.
Numbers are the highest-risk content. Treinta por ciento, dos kilómetros cuadrados, dos euros, día quince. Write them as digits the instant you hear them.
Three rules for the summary section
Signal that you’re reporting, not asserting. Si he entendido bien, la medida entrará en vigor… This does two jobs. It attributes the content to the recording, and it protects you if you misheard a detail.
Use reported speech and según. Según la concejala…, el portavoz declaró que… The task tests whether you can relay someone else’s content accurately.
Do not summarize everything. You have 180 words to cover five instructions. Three or four key facts from the audio are the right amount. Candidates who summarize exhaustively run out of words before they reach the opinion, and the opinion is where the points are.
Register: formal or informal?
The task specifies. Here it’s a letter to a newspaper, so formal: Estimada directora, usted, Atentamente. Task 1 can equally ask for an informal email to a friend, in which case, Hola Marta, tú, un abrazo.
Read the instructions before you draft a word. Register is one of the analytic categories, and getting it wrong costs across the whole task rather than in one sentence.
Getting this right consistently comes from doing the task repeatedly under audio conditions, which is a core part of DELE B2 classes rather than something you can review from a grammar book.

El español en la India: de curiosidad a decisión profesional
Los datos sobre el aprendizaje del español en la India dibujan una tendencia inequívoca: en quince años, el número de estudiantes se ha multiplicado por más de seis, de doce mil en 2010 a setenta y ocho mil en 2025.
Lo que más me llama la atención no es la cifra final, sino la aceleración del último tramo. Entre 2020 y 2025 se sumaron treinta y tres mil estudiantes, más que en toda la década anterior.
Se me ocurren dos explicaciones. La primera es económica: las empresas indias han ampliado su presencia en América Latina, y el español ha pasado de ser un adorno curricular a un requisito laboral. La segunda es más simple: la enseñanza en línea eliminó la barrera geográfica, y hoy se puede estudiar desde cualquier ciudad del país.
Las consecuencias me parecen positivas, aunque exigen algo: harán falta más profesores formados, y ese cuello de botella ya se nota.
En definitiva, el español ha dejado de ser una elección romántica para convertirse en una decisión profesional.

The architecture of a B2 opinion article
Five bullet points, five paragraphs, 35 words each. That’s the whole design.

Give the article a title. It’s an article, so it has one, and titles are part of respecting the genre conventions the task names explicitly.
Language for describing a trend
- Growth: se ha multiplicado por seis, ha crecido un X por ciento, se han sumado treinta y tres mil
- Rate of change: la aceleración del último tramo, el crecimiento se ha ralentizado, un aumento sostenido
- Comparison across periods: más que en toda la década anterior, frente a los doce mil de 2010
- Cautious causation: se me ocurren dos explicaciones, esto podría deberse a, todo apunta a que
- Reframing: ha dejado de ser X para convertirse en Y, no tanto X cuanto Y
Write the numbers out in Spanish words at least once. Setenta y ocho mil. Examiners notice whether a candidate can handle large figures in prose or only in digits.
Which option should you choose?
Option A, the chart. Needs trend vocabulary, percentages, and causal hedging. The five bullet points give you the structure, so it’s the safer choice under time pressure.
Option B, the review. Needs cultural vocabulary, the ability to summarize a plot without spoiling it, and disagreement with an existing critic. It’s more natural to write if you already have a book or film ready, and a disaster if you have to invent one.
Prepare one book and one film in advance, with three sentences of plot and two reasons you rate them. If you do that, Option B becomes the faster of the two. If you don’t, take Option A every time.

Task 1 can be informal or formal, and the audio changes accordingly.

Va a escuchar un mensaje de voz de su amiga Clara. Tome notas.
Oye, te llamo por lo del viaje de septiembre. Ha cambiado bastante la cosa. Al final somos cinco y no tres, porque se han apuntado Nico y su hermana.
He mirado precios y el apartamento que habíamos visto en Granada no nos cabe, así que he encontrado otro en el mismo barrio, con tres habitaciones, a ochenta euros la noche entre todos. Está a diez minutos andando de la Alhambra.

Informal register, identical technique
The greeting and sign-off change. Nothing else does.
A ver si lo he entendido bien does the same job as si he entendido bien in the formal version: it flags that you are relaying content from the recording rather than asserting it yourself.
The summary still names the four facts that carry the audio: five people, same neighborhood, eighty euros a night, ten minutes from the Alhambra. And the answer still engages the question Clara actually asked instead of ignoring it.
Notice the numbers written out: ochenta, ciento sesenta, el día 3. Catch them as digits during the recording, then write them in words in the letter.

En defensa de una película lenta
La reseña que leí la semana pasada calificaba Nomadland de aburrida y sin argumento. Discrepo por completo.
La película sigue a Fern, una mujer de sesenta años que, tras perder su trabajo y su pueblo, se instala en una furgoneta y recorre el oeste de Estados Unidos haciendo trabajos temporales. No pasa gran cosa, es cierto. Y ahí está precisamente el mérito.
El crítico confunde lentitud con vacío. Lo que la película hace, y hace muy bien, es dedicar tiempo a lo que otras despachan en un plano: la burocracia de la pobreza, el frío, la dignidad de no pedir ayuda. Si esa historia se contara con más ritmo, se convertiría en otra cosa y perdería lo único que la sostiene.
¿A quién la recomendaría? A quien tenga paciencia y no necesite que le expliquen lo que está viendo. A quien busque entretenimiento rápido, seguramente no.

Why Option B needs preparation at home
Option A gives you data and a five-part structure. Option B gives you nothing: you have to supply the work, the plot, the counter-argument, and the recommendation from memory, under time pressure.
So prepare one film and one book before exam day. Three sentences of plot, two reasons you rate it, one thing a critic might reasonably dislike. With that ready, Option B becomes the faster of the two. Without it, take Option A every time.
One structural note worth copying: the review names the criticism, concedes the factual part of it (no pasa gran cosa, es cierto), then reframes it as a strength. Conceding the fact and disputing the interpretation is the most reliable disagreement move at B2.

How should you split the 80 minutes?
Give task 1 about 35 minutes and task 2 about 40, keeping 5 to check both. Task 1’s audio is played within its own timing, so the writing itself gets less than 35 minutes of actual composition.
A workable rhythm:
Task 1, 35 minutes. Draw the five note buckets in two minutes. Two plays with note-taking. Five minutes organizing the notes against the five instructions. Twenty minutes of writing. Three checks.
Task 2, 40 minutes. Three minutes to choose your option and read the input text. Four sketching the five paragraphs. Twenty-eight writing. Five checking length and connectors.
Final 5 minutes. Count both texts. Confirm neither is under 100 words, and both sit near 165. Check the register in Task 1 one last time.

Which errors cost B2 candidates the most points?
- Weak notes on the audio leave Task 1 with nothing solid to summarize.
- Over-summarizing the recording and running out of words before the opinion.
- Wrong register in Task 1. Both formal and informal are possible, and the instruction tells you which one to use.
- No title on the Task 2 article. Genre conventions are assessed.
- Failing to engage the counter-argument. Task 1 often asks you to respond to an objection in the recording. Restating your own view is not answering it.
- Listing figures without interpreting them in Option A. Description is not commentary.
- Writing a chatty blog post when the task calls for a formal article.
Point five is the one I flag most in B2 mocks. Candidates summarize the shopkeepers’ objection accurately and then simply say they disagree, without giving a reason that engages the objection’s logic. The model answer above does it in one sentence: al ganar espacio peatonal, aumenta el número de visitantes que pasean.
The B2 speaking paper is 20 minutes long and consists of three tasks. The DELE B2 speaking samples walk through every task.
A five-week B2 writing plan
Week 1: note-taking only. Take any Spanish radio bulletin that is two to three minutes long. Draw five buckets, listen twice, and fill them. No writing at all. Ten a week.
Week 2, task 1. Audio plus letter, one a day. Forse sì, he entendido bien and one según attribution in every text. Alternate between formal and informal.
Week 3, charts. Find or invent a data table each day and write the five-paragraph article. Read every figure aloud in Spanish words before you write.
Week 4, reviews. Prepare one book and one film properly, then write two reviews for each, disagreeing with an imagined negative critic.
Week 5, full papers. Three or four complete 80-minute papers, both tasks, with real audio for Task 1. Check the task specifications in the DELE B2 Spanish specifications table to know exactly what each task assesses.
Then review against the four analytic categories rather than for grammar alone. Ask whether you covered the input content, whether the register matched, whether the text is organized into visible paragraphs, and whether the language range varies.
Writing at B2 is difficult to self-assess because the failures are structural rather than grammatical. DELE assessor feedback came back with the holistic and analytic scores separated.

Registering for B2 in India
DELE runs six times a year in India, in February, April, May, July, October, and November, at Instituto Cervantes New Delhi on Hanuman Road. The 2026 B2 fee is ₹8,000 before 18% GST. Registration usually closes six to eight weeks ahead, and results arrive around three months later.
The B2 written session is long. Reading is 70 minutes, listening is 40, and writing is 80; reading and listening are presented in a single booklet. That’s over three hours before you reach the end of your opinion article. Practice task 2 at the end of a long session, never fresh.
Practice the listening half of the writing paper
Most candidates prepare for B2 writing by writing. The paper’s first task rewards something else entirely: catching five categories of content from a recording you hear twice, then relaying it accurately while adding an opinion of your own.
