The DELE B2 oral test asks you to do something the lower levels never do: judge a set of options and defend your ranking.
Task 1 hands you a problem and five to seven proposed solutions. You have to say which are good, which are poor, and why, then argue about it with the examiner for six or seven minutes. The same evaluative demand runs through DELE B2 writing samples.
That single task is longer than the entire A1 oral test. The specifications below are from the official B2 exam guide published by Instituto Cervantes.
What are the 3 tasks in B2 expresión oral?
The DELE B2 speaking test lasts 20 minutes, with 20 minutes of preparation. Task 1 is to evaluate a set of proposals and discuss them for 6 to 7 minutes. Task 2 is describing an imagined situation from a photograph and discussing it for 5 to 6 minutes. Task 3 is giving your opinion on survey data, 3 to 4 minutes.
| Task | What you do | Time |
|---|---|---|
| Tarea 1 | Evaluate 5 to 7 proposals, then discuss | 6 to 7 min |
| Tarea 2 | Describe an imagined situation from a photo, then discuss | 5 to 6 min |
| Tarea 3 | Comment on survey data in conversation | 3 to 4 min |
| Preparation | Tasks 1 and 2 | 20 min |
Speaking is worth 25 points out of the diploma’s 100. At B2, it sits in Group 2 with listening, and that pair needs at least 30 points out of 50, with reading and writing forming Group 1. The grouping is the same as at A1, A2, and B1, contrary to what several preparation sites claim. DELE Spanish levels and entry requirements are set out level by level.
For the format and scoring behind these papers, read the DELE B2 speaking guide first.
What changes from B1 to B2 speaking?
B2 replaces B1’s prepared personal monologue with an evaluative task, extends the test from 15 to 20 minutes, doubles the preparation time, and adds a task built on statistical data. You no longer talk about yourself. You assess ideas.
| B1 | B2 | |
|---|---|---|
| Total time | 15 min | 20 min |
| Preparation | 15 min | 20 min |
| Task 1 | Prepared monologue about you | Evaluate proposals, 6 to 7 min |
| Photo task | Describe what you see | Describe an imagined situation |
| Third element | Simulated role play | Survey data discussion |
| Core demand | Narrate and give opinions | Evaluate, compare, concede, argue |
Notice the photo task has changed. At B1, you described the image and speculated a little. At B2, the task is describir una situación imaginada, so the photograph is a starting point for a scenario you construct.

Sample paper 1: Tarea 1, valorar propuestas
The stimulus sheet
Tarea 1.
A model monologue
Around 230 words, roughly two and a half minutes, leaving four for the discussion.
The four moves this task requires
Rank, don’t list. La medida que veo más útil … En segundo lugar … Por último. Signposting a ranking is what makes the monologue an evaluation rather than a description.
Give a reason the proposal itself doesn’t state. Proposal 5 says, “allow remote work.” The model answer adds why it reduces stress: control over your own day. That inference is the B2 skill.
Concede. Dicho esto, solo funciona si… and Me parece necesario, aunque tengo mis dudas… Every strong B2 answer contains at least two concessions. A candidate who only approves or only rejects sounds like B1.
Dismiss with an image. Es como poner una tirita. One metaphor or comparison noticeably lifts the register. You need one, not five.
Structures worth having automatic
| Function | Spanish |
|---|---|
| Rank | La más eficaz sería…, En segundo lugar pondría… |
| Approve with a reason | Me parece acertada porque… |
| Hypothesise | Habría que…, Sería necesario que… |
Two of those take the subjunctive. At B2, the subjunctive after expressions of doubt is expected rather than optional, and this task is where it naturally appears.
The examiner will push back
Notice the shape: accept the objection, restate your position more precisely, then explain what you meant. That is the highest-value conversational move at B2, and it works on any challenge.
Practicing it needs someone willing to disagree with you, which is why timed mock orals with a trainer form the backbone of our DELE B2 course.
Sample paper 2: Tarea 2, situación imaginada
The prompt
Tarea 2.
A model answer
The difference between B1 and B2 on a photo
At B1, the task rewarded plausible speculation. At B2, it rewards a coherent narrative with psychological content.
Three things this answer does that a B1 answer would not.
It builds one story and stays in it. Father and daughter, canceled flight, family event. Not a list of possibilities.
It reads emotion differently for each person. Él está más resignado que enfadado… Ella se lo toma como algo personal. Contrasting two internal states is a B2 move.
It uses a detail as evidence. Observation, then inference, explicitly linked.
The phrase lo que sugiere que is worth memorizing on its own. It converts a description into an argument.
Sample paper 3: Tarea 3, datos de una encuesta
The stimulus
The figures below are illustrative, written for practice. They are not real survey results.
Tarea 3.
A sample exchange
The language of data commentary
Six structures cover this whole task.
(the second takes the subjunctive)
- Hypothesise about yourself: Yo habría contestado…, Si me lo hubieran preguntado, habría dicho…
That last one is the single most useful phrase at the B2 level. No porque X, sino porque Y. It shows you can anticipate how you might be misunderstood and head it off, and it requires the subjunctive after no porque.
Read the percentages aloud in full Spanish during your preparation. Treinta y cuatro por ciento. Candidates who have only read numbers silently stumble over them when a figure has to carry an argument.
Sample paper 4: Tarea 1 alternativa, transporte urbano
A second proposal sheet, because the topic rotates and the evaluative language does not.
The oral is 25 of the 100 points. Rehearse the remaining papers from our DELE sample paper index.
The stimulus sheet
Tarea 1.
A model monologue, abridged
The evaluative moves, again
Ranking with signposts. A reason the proposal does not state is the difference between a bike lane and a connected bike lane. Two concessions: aunque con una condición and dicho esto. One social objection framed with no porque… sino porque. And a dismissal by image: me suena a gesto simbólico.
Same seven structures as sample paper 1, different subject. That is the point of practicing a second sheet: the topic is unpredictable, and the language is not.
The B2 reading paper has 36 items to be completed in 70 minutes. The DELE B2 reading samples walk through every task.
How should you use the 20 minutes of preparation?
Give task 1 about twelve minutes and task 2 about six, keeping two to read the survey. Task 1 is the longest task in the test and the only one in which a ranking must be decided in advance.
A workable order:
- Two minutes. Read all three cards.
- Twelve minutes. Task 1. Rank the proposals from best to worst, then write one reason and one reservation for each. Reservations matter as much as reasons.
- Six minutes. Task 2. Decide who the people are and what the single story is. Note five words, not sentences.
- The rest. Glance at the survey and say the two or three figures you’ll mention out loud.
Ranking on paper is the key step. Candidates who go in without a decided order spend the first ninety seconds of a seven-minute task thinking aloud, and it reads as hesitancy rather than nuance.
For how the four papers fit together on exam day, see the DELE registration steps.
Which mistakes cost B2 candidates the most?
- Describing proposals instead of evaluating them. The verb in the task is valorar.
- No concessions. Uniform approval or rejection sounds a level lower.
- Backing down completely when the examiner pushes. Accept the point, then restate your position precisely.
- Listing possibilities in task 2 instead of committing to one imagined story.
- Avoiding the subjunctive. Dudo que, no creo que, me llama la atención que, no porque all require it, and all three tasks invite them.
- Reading the survey figures wrong because the numbers were never practiced aloud.
- Running short on task 1. Seven minutes is a long time. Two and a half minutes of monologue plus real engagement in the discussion fill it.
Some professionals prefer the faster turnaround of SIELE certification.
The B2 listening paper has 30 items and takes 40 minutes. The DELE B2 listening samples walk through every task.
A five-week plan for the B2 oral
Week 1, evaluation. One proposal sheet a day. Invent them: how should a city reduce traffic, how should a school improve attendance, how should a company cut costs? Rank five options, one reason and one reservation each.
Week 2: concession and defense. Have a partner attack your ranking. Practice accepting the objection and restating your position without collapsing.
Week 3, imagined situations. One photo a day, one committed narrative, contrasting emotional states for two people. Use lo que sugiere que every time.
Week 4, data. Find any Spanish chart or survey table. Describe it aloud in full words. Then say how the figures would differ in India and why.
Week 5, full tests. 20 minutes of preparation, 20 minutes of performance, three or four times. Work through the DELE B2 Spanish model exam from Cervantes at least once.
Weeks 2 and 5 need a partner who will genuinely disagree. If you don’t have one, advanced DELE coaching runs the full 20-minute oral as a timed mock.
Candidates elsewhere in India or abroad use online Spanish tuition for the same sessions.
For where this level sits relative to the others, see the B2 CEFR descriptors.

Taking the B2 oral in India
DELE runs six times a year in India, in February, April, May, July, October, and November, at Instituto Cervantes New Delhi on Hanuman Road. The 2026 B2 fee is ₹8,000 before 18% GST; registration usually closes six to eight weeks ahead, and results take approximately three months.
B2 is the level most often required for university admission and professional recognition, and three months is a long wait when an application deadline is fixed. Register at least two sessions before you need the certificate in hand.
Learn to disagree well
The DELE B2 oral is a test of judgment expressed in Spanish. Rank the proposals, give a reason and a reservation for each, commit to one story in the photo task, and read the survey figures as evidence for an argument. When the examiner pushes back, concede the point and sharpen your position rather than abandoning it.
If you want the seven-minute proposals task run properly, with someone who will argue with you, talk to us about the next DELE B2 batch in Noida or online. Call, message on WhatsApp, or come to the Sector 18 center for an initial spoken assessment. Four to six students per batch, and every batch includes full-time mock orals.
